One More Night was written before the sessions started, but in this case, the early preparation didn’t seem to help. It’s not a great song. I guess it’s not a terrible song either. It’s just a song.
The ancient ancestor of the “no light” idea (“tonight no light will shine on me) comes from Revelation.
And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads. And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.
There’s not much to say about it. The cheery music and vocal are incongruous with the sad lyrics. Dylan’s only played it twice live.
I wonder if Dylan was a Frankie Valli fan.
I think I like the Phil Collins song with the same name better. Well, maybe not.
Other Dylan Versions
i actually like Avett’s version better than Dylan’s.
A version by The Band’s old boss…
Stray Cats bassist.
